Welcome to Our Classroom!

  • Every student can learn

    Welcome to the Computer Lab!
    Get ready to learn!
I am Ms. Cortright.  Welcome to my page!  This year should prove to be quite exciting!  Before we get started with that though, let me tell you a little about myself...
I have been at Pine Valley a LONG time!  PV is my Alma Mater.  I started kindergarten right here in this building.  I graduated from Pine Valley in 1984 and went on to earn my Associates Degree through Fredonia State and JCC.  I started working at "The Valley"  in 1995 and have been here ever since.
I have two children, both have graduated from Pine Valley as well.
    I live in South Dayton.
I love to garden and cook!  Don't be surprised if I share from my garden and kitchen with you!
Books are my thing!  I will challenge you to read everyday. I love to participate in the Book-It program! Think you can read more books than me?
The plan this year is to learn, but have FUN doing it!  I am actually in a new position this year. I have always been in a classroom.  You will find me in room 46 now, the computer lab. What a change! So when I say the plan is to learn, I am including myself.  We are working in a new program to Pine Valley this year. It's a Digital Literacy program called Learning.com. This is where we learn some basic computer skills, keyboarding and Internet Safety. Kindergarten through 6th grade participate in the program in our elementary building.  Working together we will become great digital citizens.  We are a team!
Being safe on the internet is so very important. Currently our 3rd through 6th grade students have been visiting a site called Cyber Surf Island.  This is an FBI Safe Online Surfing program where kids will learn about cybersafety and digital citizenship through a series of games.  Each island matches the students grade level and has seven portals to complete.  Once all seven portals have been completed there is a test to check what you have learned.  The FBI-SOS holds monthly competitions among schools across the country.  We are enrolled in the May competition. The 10 highest scores are shown on a leaderboard.  When possible, winning schools could receive a visit from a local FBI special agent!  How exciting, right?  Would you like to check it out?  Go to https://sos.fbi.gov/
I love, love, love school!  If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask. Hope you have a great year!
