The Pine Valley Central School District is a rural district that covers an area of approximately 120 square miles in the northeast section of Chautauqua County and the northwest section of Cattaraugus County. The Pine Valley Central School is approximately 14 miles from the Village of Fredonia and 25 miles from Jamestown. The area connects easily to metropolitan Buffalo and Erie by using the Southern Tier Expressway (Interstate 86/Rt. 17) and the New York State Thruway (I-90), which are nearby. Thus, numerous two and four-year institutions are pretty accessible. The two largest villages in the district are Cherry Creek and South Dayton. Both villages have populations of approximately 750 persons. The area is mainly residential and heavily agricultural, although numerous small businesses and industries add to the economic base. The beautiful and vast countryside near Allegany State Park, the largest in New York State, offers countless year-round outdoor activities: hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. The area is especially noteworthy for its fine recreational facilities, excellent golf courses, ski resorts, state parks, and boating opportunities. In addition to the cultural and enrichment activities associated with Buffalo and Erie, there are similar opportunities nearby. Chautauqua Institute, Roger Tory Peterson Institute, Reg Lenna Civic Center, and Buffalo Philharmonic and Regional Theatre offer comprehensive appeal programs, speakers, and entertainment. The community also has a large Amish population within the district's boundaries. The Amish offer a cultural aspect to the community and provide services from woodworking and cabinetry making to baked goods and quilts at reasonable prices. This combines to give the Pine Valley Central School District residents an excellent quality of life at a moderate cost of living.
