    Assistive Technology pertains to any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability.  By law, schools must provide Assistive Technology to those students with disabilities where support is necessary for a free and appropriate public education (FAPE).
